Student Concessions Tickets by Indian Railways

Student Concessions is only allowed in Sleeper Class and 2nd sitting itickets. A girl student upto class 12 can get free Monthly Season ticket to travel to and fro from her home to school or college and as that of boys student upto class 10 can get this facility. Kolkatta Metro Rail gives 60% concessions in fare to the students of schools and vocational institutes to travel proving usefulness to the needs of poor students.

After the above age limit student can still avail concession on tickets as student basis if their education institute is recognized one. Student upto age of 25 years (Non Reserved Category ie., OC) get 50 percent concession in Second Class Sleeper and for those who belongs to SC and ST caste age limit is 27 and concession for them is 75 percent, also the same rules applies for monthly season tickets.

Also student (either Indian origin or NRI) who are studying and planning to travel to different cities in India to attend some camps or seminars organized by the government of India, personal travel to some historical places during vacations, etc., they can avail a 50 percent fare concessions.

Research scholar up till 35 years when they travel to any place in connection with their research work are provided with 50 percent concessions. NCC cadets are provided with similar concessions.

Unemployed youth under the age of 35 years can get upto 100% discount on the basic fare of 2nd class in express trains while attending an interview conducted by either Central government or State government though they need to produce an attested copy of interview call letter from the concerned company.

How to get an Student Concessions Refund

Availing student concession is lengthy process when you ask me. Student need to purchase normal journey cum reservation i-ticket to get discount ticket in return. This is the first step, so buy a normal ticket and follow the next step mentioned below.

To get such refund of any categories mentioned above student should approach the principal or the head of the institutions who in turn will issue a form titled Student Concessions Applications issued by Indian Railways to them giving full particulars of the students, the alternative if your institute doesn’t have the application form then you can urge the Principal to write a simple letter written on a paper addressing to the  nearest railways regional head with ‘Student Concession Application’ as the subject and purpose as the body and finally undersigned by the head of your institutions.
