How to Activate & Deactivate GPRS on BSNL/Cellone Postpaid

Filed in Telecom 21 comments

Really Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) owned Cellone for Prepaid mobiles and Post paid mobiles support & customer care has lived up to the expectations for to the experienced mobile users. Its exists only because of the reason that 70% of Indian mobiles users uses mobile phone for just to answer a call or to dial a call.

I wandered for 7 days to activate GPRS on my cousinĀ  who is a Cellone postpaid customer. Everytime I call customer there seems to be no reply. The procedure to Activate & Deactivate GPRS on BSNL/Cellone Postpaid is easy but what about the activate of GPRS for Postpaid?

Here is the procedure I found for activate or deactivate GPRS on BSNL/Cellone Postpaid subscribers.

To Activate GPRS on BSNL GPRS on Prepaid Connections

To activate GPRS on BSNL GPRS on Postpaid Connections you need to first know that you have two plans namely:
Plan 1: Plan 49 per month (you get 5MB free usage and beyond that Rs 0.01 per Kb)
Plan 2: Plan 199 per month (Unlimited Internet with no limit on GPRS)

Now to activate this GPRS services you need to send the following SMS

GPRS49 to 53733

for Plan 49

GPRS199 to 53733

for Plan 199

Its takes 24 hours minimum to activate GPRS on your mobile and activation charges are completely free. Given here are the details of BSNL GPRS and MMS Tariff details.

To Deactivate GPRS on BSNL GPRS on Postpaid Connections

Deactivate GPRS on BSNL GPRS on Postpaid Connections is one of the easier process and could be done by sending a SMS too.

Send the following SMS

GPRSD to 53733

This works for all the plans.

The plans on page http://www.bsnl.co.in/service/cellular_cellone_allplan.htm say that for the 325, 525 and 725 plans, some GPRS data is already bundled. Why do we need to go for this Rs.49 and Rs.199 plan again?

I’m asking because I’m facing the same problem. I took a new BSNL postpaid connection today for the 525 plan, and I am unable to browse any sites. I wonder if I have to activate it using the 49/199 plan… and then spend 49/199 on top of the 325 rental.

Are you talking of 3G or 2G plans?

For 3G plans you need to maintain a main balance of Rs 150+ to browse website on your mobile.

I’m talking of 2G, not 3G. Correction above: I’ve taken the 325 plan (not 525).

Thanks for the tip. The pricing of the GPRS plans with BSNL is always confusing, with many plans and prices depending on the download limits.
