Ok, you are new to Google Docs because you were previously using Microsoft Office. The disadvantage what I find with Microsoft Office is that you have to carry it from once to another to access it from another point. Reversly good thing about Google Docs is your data is saved online safely with your Google Account and you can access it from any place where you have availability of Internet. Either one most of you all go with saving your data online with Google Docs. Here is my Get Started Guide with Google Docs. Actually I should be proud of producing this to you since I was Google Employee. Love Google!!!
Anyone can reach his personal documents by visiting Docs.Google.com in the address bar. You will be proceed to login if you are not signed in into Google Account.
This will show the following
At the top you will see Google Docs Logo and beside it is Search Docs where you can Search for Docs that you and this is come in picture in real life when you have many Documents stored with Google Docs.
Now the Google Docs Interface is divided into two different blocks. One is Left hand side bar and other is Right hand sidebar.
Left Hand Sidebar
This gives you quick access to docs details like- You can directly browse Documents Owned by you, Documents Shared with me, Hidden Documents, Starred Documents, Documents in Trash and user customized folders and shared folders.
Right Hand Sidebar
This gives you all items that you select on Left Hand Sidebar. For example if you select All documents owned by me then you will see all the documents owned by you and it details like Date when last updated, name & shared with details. Above them there is Share, Folders, Delete, Rename, More Action button.
Creating a New Documents in Google Docs
Just below Google Docs you see Create New, Click on it and you will get a drop down menu with Document, Presentation, Spreadsheet, Form, Drawing, Folder option.
Now select your desired one and then proceed with your work. So Creating a new document in Google is as simple as that.
You can even Upload Microsoft Word, Excel and other documents online through Upload Option and the Complete Guide is on my blogpost “How to Move Microsoft Office Files to Google Docs”.
Google Presentation
With this you can create Presentation just like you are doing with Microsoft Powerpoint. Infact I prefer Google Presentation than the competitor Microsoft Powerpoint.
Google Spreadsheet
Its just like Microsoft Excel but you can have lot more features which are not with Excel.
Google Document
This is just a customizable notepad online.
Google Form
Now I love this. You can create forms like asking your users feedback form and backend you can view the data.
Google Drawing
Google Drawing the latest feature in Docs by which you can make charts, diagrams, designs and much more.
Thats was all About Google Docs and my guide ends here. Thank you one and all. Any Comments or Queries?
